Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year!  This will be a fun and exciting year since this you will be learning at a GREAT school!

I am looking forward to meeting all of you, as well as seeing some familiar faces again. I will be keeping my website up to date with the most recent lesson plans and assignments.  Please check back here frequently.

I order to be successful in my classroom, you will be required to obtain the following materials:

Algebra I:

  • Spiral notebook used ONLY for math class
  • Pencil AND eraser
  • Adhesive material (glue/tape/stapler)
  • Coloring utensils (pencils/markers/crayons)
  • Student planner
  • Calculator (OPTIONAL)

If for any reason you are not able to purchase these, please see me as soon as possible.

Flipped Classroom

As discussed in class, we will be implementing this new strategy in our classroom.  We will no longer be taking notes in class and working out problems for homework.  Instead, we will be flipping that.  For homework, you will be required to read the section in the chapter on your own, watch videos related to the concept, and take notes on your own.  When you come in to class the next day, we will work out problems in class, with the help of your peers and myself.

This is not only happening in our math classes, it will eventually take place in most of your classes here at Southwest CTA.  This strategy will encourage all of you students to become learners, learning for yourself and by yourself.

The two main websites we will be using are Khan Academy and Brightstorm.
