Coyote Cheer - Our History

In Fall of 2012, Freshman Kat Chang went before Coyote Congress with a signed petition to request a new cheer club be allowed at SWCTA. Student Council approved and ratified the Constitution Kat wrote and the NEW Coyote Cheer Club was born. Meetings began in November 2012. In a matter of four months: uniforms were purchased, a competition routine was learned, the girls performed in the Maaco Las Vegas Bowl, and won First Place in their FIRST EVER competition! The cheerleaders and their coaches worked tirelessly to represent Southwest CTA and themselves in a way that gained the respect and admiration of the student body and judges alike. The coaches continue to work hard to keep the cheer club open and available to the students of SWCTA - their goal is to provide a safe environment while teaching project-based learning and leadership skills. Since Southwest is an academy without sports teams, it did not receive the typical equipment that a regular high school does, such as cheer mats. So the young club participated in a car wash, taco sales and other fundraisers to raise money to purchase new mats. Thanks go out to our very supportive administration for helping us make up the difference. Although the club has experienced some growing pains, the coaches know that it will only help to make it stronger...our mission is to challenge students to attain knowledge, develop character, acquire skills, demonstrate responsible work ethic and prepare for the 21st century.
