Four accidents reported from loss of brake pressure on Ford’s most popular vehicle
The 2013 and 2014 Ford F-150 are being investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for a problem with the brake pedal. Drivers have been reporting that the brake can suddenly go to the floor when pushed, with a complete loss of braking. The NHTSA has 33 complaints about the problem, with 20 in the past seven months.
The investigation covers 420,000 pickups with the 3.5-liter V6 engine. However, Ford says some F-150s with different engines may have the same problem. Four of the complaints allege an accident occurred because of the braking problem, which is sometimes accompanied by illumination of the brake warning lamp or low fluid level in the master cylinder.
This is just an investigation — for now, no recall has been issued. Ford says any owner who has a concern about the brakes can contact their dealer for a checkup.
